Matt, DMB, Arlo, Bo, Ron et al ... what a thread.
I don't recall a more constructive discussion in years.

I was going to suggest (to myself) going back to create an essay based
on summarising its arguments ... but I think Matt has effectively done
that in three mails. Worth packaging up and preserving.

Given all the discussion, I'd still be really interested where DMB
fundamentally disagrees with Matt .... not for the sake of argument,
but fundamentally, pragmatically ?
