Hi Marsha
Absolutely! I think Robert Pirsig calls it lateral drifting. My whole life
has been one long lateral drift. What I suppose what I mean by
inconsequential matters is what most people might call working a regular
job. Not that I have anything against working, mind you. Sometimes I dearly
wish I could work a regular job and have something like a paycheck that I
could count on.
On the other hand, when it's all said and done and I'm looking at leaving
this life the same way that I entered, I would like to be able to look back
at time well spent and not time spent making money. I notice when I did work
a regular job that I never had time for much of anything else. I cannot
imagine having to do that for 35 or 40 years. Oh my. I would have to take up
drinking or drugs.
It's much more exciting waking up in the morning not knowing what's going to
happen today. Sure, I have bills to pay like anyone else. Mmaybe I will go
out and sell some dirt. Or maybe someone will call wanting a motorcycle
repaired. Or maybe I will work on that next book. Or maybe...
That is what I mean by being flexible. So all in all I think we are in
agreement.
Thank you,
Dan
