I chose to retire very early, but my children had already flown from
the nest, so it was not such a difficult choice.

Not exactly what I meant. Do you know your mother as a individual
person? Or do you know your mother through the expectations of her
role as mother? This can become very dicey when it comes to significant other.

It's not delving into myself, but delving into "selves". Again, I'm
not understanding what you want from Joe-Bob and Betty-Sue.

My intellectual life has been rather limited. I am thrilled that
this forum has exposed me to so many exciting new ideas.
