You've hit the nail on the head!
Those who believe what a democratic government does is okay
because it's the people (cp., those who think a large national
debt is okay because we owe it to ourselves) vs.
those who believe that the people act through voluntary
exchange while only the government can justifiably act by
force.

I wish this were true.  In fact people have all the evidence they need
from the current state of corporations/ business: Pinto's gas tanks
exploding, Enron, lead paint in toys, etc.

P. S. The problem isn't only when "do-gooders" don't try do good.
Doing good is the basis of the free market.  ("Build a better mousetrap
& the world will beat a pathway to your door.")   The problem is with
do-gooders that try to force their solutions on others.
