[MD] Gun smoke in the shape of a fake letter and not a mushroomcloud

Read that again Marsha, it really is good.

I will be linking and blogging more on this.

The great point for me is the "one-upmanship" angle, not just that
even Gladwell is the wrong side of the divide, even the iPhone, even
Kindle, even every a.n.other web-blog-wiki-aggregator ....

My line has always been "twas ever thus" - fashion in what passes for
intellect has always been just that - fashion - always. What has
happened recently - since McLuhan pointed out that medium IS the
message (long before Brooks does here) - is that the pace of media has
risen to levels that human psyche has not kept pace with. We are ever
more failing to see the difference between intellect and the
appearance of intellect in the (electronically) changing fashions
around us.

The "game" switches so fast we human brains struggle to tell whether
we are dealing with odd or even levels of irony at any given time.
Rich stuff. What did Rorty say about Irony ? .... I may be some time.
