Your example here doesn't hold up because in the end we are voting in
lucky politician instead of skilled ones.
I don't see the problem fixing itself, because every time a maverick is
voted in, he does not last long when he does not play by the rules
established in DC. I don't see the problem fixing itself this year or
next year.
Yes we do have the checks and balances, but the only thing you hear
during congressional investigations is "I don't recollect" ( can you say
Alberto Gonzaless) or people who simply ignore a subpoena and refuse to
show up, as in the case of Mr Rove.
The checks and balances are becoming a mere formality, I am yet to see an
investigation bare fruits.
Here are the standard answers that we have heard over the last 12 years
or so
1. Define what is
2. I don't recollect
3. don't remember
4. Executive privilege
5. It's an open investigation so we can't comment
6. we'll get back to you on that
7. I Haven't read the full report ( even though it's in the report)
therefore you are making it up.
8. I am not aware of that. See 7 above.
and so on and on and on
Where is George Carlin when you need him. Political comedians like
Stewart, Black, and Colbert don't have to look hard at all, The material
is handed to them on a silver platter.
Change has to happen and happen soon
