I'm not sure either since the words seem to mean different thing to 
different people. That's why I asked the questions. To me a statement
like 
"We're conscious of our direct experience" is redundant.

We also can be unconscious of our direct experience. We can be
unconscious 
and dream about direct experience. 
so to say "We're conscious of our direct experience" may not be a
redundancy but a description of a state of awareness.
