It has been brought up about standing up to racial prejudice
and hate rhetoric. That by not taking offence to it and remaining
neutral you encourage it. You are portrayed as weak willed
and willy-nilly. 
I think it takes more strength to guide it toward awareness, ignore
the ugliness and encourage those values that that deepen the
understanding.

To me, Intellectual prejudice is many times more dangerous than racial
or social prejudice. Often social prejudices may be loosened by
intellectual
appeal, but, if the intellect is prejudiced then it may only lead down
the path of disaster.

Once humans have an intellectual justification for social prejudice
there
is no stopping them. It spreads like an infection.
