Ham, Gav, DMB, Ron et al:
My head is still spinning from the responses to my questions about
consciousness. A better word than "consciousness" or "experience" seems to
be "awareness." Also some posit the need for a "knower" of awareness, also
called a "locus" of awareness.
Two points. 1) I don't see any difference between a "knower" and a "self,
as in "self-conscious. 2) "Consciousness" has no verb form with "I" (or
self) as the subject. We don't say "I conscious" or "I aware," but we do
say "I experience" and "I sense."
Finally, I quickly descend into infinite regress when I try to identify the
the "Knower" of the "Knower" of awareness. I'm beginning to wonder if
Pirsig's notion of experience as reality leaves something out. Indeed,
doesn't intellect always leave something out?
Thanks for your replies.
Platt
