Ron:
Science has broken itself out of these bounds during the past century
so one may say that SOM has already come to the Q realization
with Quantum physics and theory without the need of any philosophic
metaphysical restructuring what so ever.
The problem we seem to be facing is the social acceptance of these new
intellectual ideas and meanings.
Western cultures Christianity dominated society is steeped in Platonism and
Aristotlian analytic
based on the concept of one and only one truth and only one way to realize
it.
This is what we are faced with, the power of peoples faith in the absolute
and the familier,
what we offer to them is nihlist, atheist existentialist meanings in their
eyes.
Two approaches, do we try to hoodwink them again with absolutes and
familiarity (SOL)
or
Do we leave it up to the individual pursuit..(MoQ)
What I sense SOL to be is a kind of "bait and switch " tatic for the masses.
To wit I say, good luck with the switch part.
The Quality idea is one that may only be approached by the individual.
It may not be sold to the masses.
Andre:
Hi Ron, I keep enjoying your posts. They are well thought out and
stimulating.
You end this post on a somewhat depressing note...'It may not be sold to the
masses'. I believe you are absolutely right. The large majority of people we
see everyday go to work, do their things, feed their family and relax
themselves by watching TV at night, have a nice meal, tell a story to their
children before they go to bed and try to find themselves in something not
there. They are tired! I have felt this often myself...being tired after a
hard days (night) work. Why? To pay the bills! Simple as that.
The SOM reasoning,...the SOM created world. As Sylvia observed: It is just
like a funeral procession.
I am overjoyed that I found this Discuss! I am overjoyed I found Pirsig (
ZMM given to me by a friend in 1986 while I was in the process of bying a
motorbike).
I have learnt not to feel responsible for the masses nor having any
illusions about capabilities of said masses. It absorbes energy and it will
destroy you.
Pirsig is correct: this MoQ 'idea' has found root, we are the pioneers, but
we should not expect general acceptance overnight. Sometimes this idea
hammers for years, sometimes centuries, and then, when one or two people
pick it up, they may convince more people who have to hammer for years and
decades and sometimes centuries until the conditions are right and...voila.
The problem with S/O thinking is that it was airtight. With quantum physics
the tightness is beginning to dissolve. Thing is; are we going to mop up, be
a guide along this process, or are we going to lead the way?
For what it is worth
Andre
