[Krimel]
I see no reason to doubt the existence of a historical Jesus. Our evidence
for his existence is at least as compelling as our evidence for any other
historical figure from that time period or before including Socrates and
certainly any of the pre-Socratics.

Ron:
Just questioning the Jesus we know today. You say there is reason to believe,
and you seem much more versed than I on the historical aspect, that there
is evidence of person who existed who in fact suffered and died for an ideal.
I have no problem with this. But as you say it is very interesting how judism
melded with Greek Hellenistic philosophies. Illustrating the rift between
rationalistic and materialistic philosophies in western culture. The soft minded
and tough minded views of William James, The material and form of Plato
and Aristotle.
What I see as a binding element of all of these names  is the
resolving of the universal/particular arguement. From Heraclitus
to Plato, from James to Pirsig and yes even Christianity.
It really sticks out as a common theme in western culture.

thank you for the info on the early practices of the church,
reversing circumcision? yikes
