One place where such a problem was handled differently was in Lebanon
where you had many faith and a secular government.
You ended up with 2 court systems.
If someone stole your car and was caught, you would end up in civil
court, regardless of religion. yes even if he was a Muslim, you would not
cut off his arm.
Religious courts were for family matters. Divorce, marriage and
inheritance.
once the religious courts recognized your marriage status, then the legal
courts would recognize it.
What the bishop is talking about has been practiced by some religious
communities in the west for hundreds of years. Islam , or should I say,
certain elements of the Muslim community, is the new comer to the game,
hence the demand for their right.
As for making faith the core for morality, well I beg to differ.
