[Platt]
I guess you haven't seen the religious fervor and adulation at Obama
rallies? It's like an old fashioned revival meeting. Nothing like the
relatively reserved response for McCain.

[Arlo]
From what I have seen, ideologues on both sides are wooing a fervent
congregation. But let me ask this, how does it differ from the fervor
and adulation of Reagan back in 1980? Are democrats more excited
about their candidate this time than republicans? Considering the
outright hostility and aggression McCain drew from the radical right,
I'd say that tempered things a bit.

[Arlo had asked]
Ask this. "If Harris opposes dogmatic belief and believes the enemy
is uncritical loyalty to any set of beliefs, may I presume he would
be against the adulation and religious fervor of followers of any
political ideologue?"

[Platt]
I presume he would. Wouldn't you?

[Arlo]
I know nothing of Harris to even comment. I'd say we should be
against it. But I bet this is one of those times when if the
"liberals" do it, its "adulation and religious fervor" and
"uncritical loyalty", but when they "conservatives" do it, its
perfectly justifiable respect and excitement.
