Hi Ant, I wouldn't accuse Lennon of hypocrisy in "imagining" no
posessions either.
He was imagining "no posession" full stop - not the idea of discarding
his own - he was miles above such egotistical considerations. As he
said "it's easy if you can" - ie it's hard because you can't. As you
say, a koan. (Mr Kite too.)
Hypocrisy is essential to making any pragmatic progress (sadly) in
this SOMist dominated culture anyway. Unilateral gestures are just
that - gestures. The pragmatist makes best use of the resources at
hand - but doesn't lose sight of values.
