My understanding (and it doesn't come from Pirsig) is expressed by reversing 
the author's quote as follows:
    "The experience itself is Value."

Do I see any lights flashing??!

I beg your pardon.  WHAT paper?  I can't imagine a more incongruous pairing 
than Nietszche and Pirsig.  The former was all about humanity and man's 
vulnerability, the latter is obsessed with the morality of an evolving 
universe.  The only thing I see in common is the absence of a primary source 
and a mental breakdown (probably as a consequence).

But you've been reading Nietszche recently.  Why don't you start the ball 
rolling?
