Hi Krimel, David, Ian,
It certainly is, but i was using it for a reason not found in the literature you cite here, and non that i am aware of?Ian: morality.
The question i am asking is:
1. Would it be more moral to place organic brains in 'vats' in order to enhance consciousness and mystical experience?
The question i do not feel to be relevant is:
2. What is the link between the senses and experience? (because i agree with David when he explains Pirsig's position regarding Quality.)
If the answer to 1 is yes, then logically it would be a moral imperative to actually do it on an industrial scale.

(2) The SciFi "brain in a vat" is a common philosophical device for
studying the link between the senses and experience - Hofstadter /
Dennett is my favourite example.
