SA,

I don't know Rienzi, and I cannot get it to play for me. I was exposed to
opera when I was a very little girl by my Grandmother. I found it again one
Sunday morning when I heard the Overture to Parsifal on the radio. Wagner
was supposedly not a very nice man. But it's hard for me to believe that
someone who could write such spectacular music could be very, very bad. I
love the music. I love the stories. I love the language (I don't speak
German and never read the libretto.) I love the singing. It's all
wonderful. Lots of people find it difficult to enjoy Wagner, at least at
first. It can be an emotional roller coaster ride. The Italian operas are
also wonderful. It's tough sometimes to make the time to listen to operas.
I don't like to put them into the background. I like to really listen with
full attention, and that can be 3 to 5 hours. .

I use music. I made a cd with 19 versions of Rainbow Connection, from Willy
Nelson to the Carpenters to a punk group to Kermit himself. If I'm really
down (It doesn't happen often.) I will listen to this cd. It's just
impossible to stay upset when you're singing along with an imaginary frog.
And it's such a perfect song.

Did you enjoy Rienzi?

Enjoy the camping.

Marsha
