Hi Squonk,?
?
Yes, I believe the American culture values truth. But it seems the corporate-leaders would like to define that truth for their convenience. It's all one big public relation campaign at the moment, while pockets are being picked.?

Hi Marsha,
I see what you mean.

This?seems to be?a feature of social power: Information can be mediated?to serve the interests of those wishing to exercise control. By mediation i mean the information is?edited, censored, manipulated, erased, highlighted, emphasised, de-emphasised, chosen, neglected, etc.
Another interesting way of mediation information is to change the meaning of language in order to do this more effectively. I think Arlo has hit the nail on the head there with his 'truthiness' comment - most insightful.

If the degree of manipulation becomes severe then i think one may justifiably regard the social power in question in terms of fascism. It has been argued that the US is currently in a proto-fascist state.

An antidote to this may be a good dose of truth?

Interesting,
squonk
