DM: Not what I am saying. I indict the philosophy of science
that mis-describes what scientists actually do. See Nick Maxwell's
book on science as neurotic. And this double talk means you can
do weapons research in the name of knowledge inquiry instead of
in the name of weapons research
[Krimel]
Fine but doesn't your indictment matters only to the extent that such a
philosophy has something to do with the practice of science. Weapons
research is likely to be conducted in secret. This fact alone puts it
outside of science in my book.
DM: Science is an activity and it has ends, what ends should it have,
Nick Maxwell suggests that it should be to 'realise what is of value'.
Of course, we need a proper discussion, research, experiments as to what is
of value.
[Krimel]
If all you are doing is creating a rationale for arguing about what is of
value, why do you need to talk about science at all?
