I thought you with:

"Not necessarily a 'thing', I
would say 'event', for me at least, is a better way of
putting this."

meant that a pattern is an event. Did I misinterpret that?

The definition from the dictionary did not list the meaning of "pattern" that 
the MoQ uses.

A dictionary is of course included in "all", but all was not included in that 
dictionary.
