FWIW,

Chance is just about probabilties of individual events at one level
expressed holistically at another.

Damned if you do use reductionist thinking, damned if you don't (by
Platt) for suggesting you don't know all the specific individuals.
Always a fight to be found, and Platt is never found wanting ;-)

What we do know is the probabilities of the patterns arising , not the
predicted histories of zillions of interacting (illusory, objective)
individuals.

Chance is no more weird than causation itself - which isn't saying much.
