Nooooo. I had been working too much from photographs, and was
getting in a rut. Now I'm learning about Matisse's application of
paint and color by doing some copies. It's been great. My colors
have never been as high-key as his, so it's a good stretch. And I'm
not copying exactly, but playing. I think what's most exciting about
Matisse is his use of patterns and textures. If you know Woman with
the Hat, you know it's wild with color. The 005 is the fifth Matisse
painting I've copied. Originally I was planning to copy 16, but I've
not the patience. I might setup a few well patterned still lifes and
do them in a Matisse-like style.
Do you paint? Or more to the point, what do you do besides sting like a bee?
