[MD] time to step up

hiya,
the writing is on the wall: we are in a pre-revolutionary time.

congress bails out the financial sector whilst those who can't pay their mortgages are left to sleep in their cars. people are angry and things are going to get worse.

eventually the kettle will boil but.....not many people are conscious yet....this is a problem.

SOM, the platonic-christian legacy, is still firmly entrenched. especially in the english speaking west. i read a billboard at a church yesterday: worship the creator, not his creation. it says it all.

whether you are a christian or a scientist you are likely to believe in an abstract creative force, god or numbers or laws of physics etc - there is no fundamental metaphysical difference between science and christianity....false dichotomy. they both grew from the same root. oh the irony sir.

this belief that the real world, the causative world, is not here but on an abstract plane informs the unconscious suicidal bent of humanity. the real world, heaven, is elsewhere, this world is just a testing/training ground that doesn't really matter: it is only matter. the earth is ours to exploit. is this tendency seen in the east? perhaps. maybe the concept of maya has a similar denigratory effect upon sensate reality. indeed pirsig talks of this in zamm: the moral unacceptability of affirming the illusory nature of hiroshima and nagasaki.

there is no division between the material and spiritual. as jesus said, heaven is here now, all around you, there is nowhere else. nature is divine, the earth is gaia. but who here gets that....really? even though this is an inevitable corollary of ZAMM and the MOQ itslef: WHO HERE REALLY GETS IT?

this is what i mean by conscious. if you are conscious you understand and feel your complicity, involuntary or voluntary, in the horror of the world. there is no-one else to blame. there is no us and them: just us.

crisis = opportunity. a revolution looks imminent, a global revolution. history is the history of revolutions so we shouldn't be too surprised. but until we are conscious, en masse, then we will only repeat the errors of all the other ineffacacious revolutions of the past. we need to evolve not just revolt.

i am hopeful. even though the great majority of people in the world are not conscious, even though many on this list are not conscious, i am still hopeful. why? because this consciousness, this awareness is growing exponentially. it will seem hopeless. it will seem as if the whole world is full of morons for a long time and then all of a sudden: critical mass. david suzuki explained this concept well in the video that i linked to previously (wonder how many of you actually watched? 2, 3?)

but human agency is paramount. things don't just happen. agency and wu wei are not exclusive concepts, they are complementary. we have to take responsibility and be conscious and then providence(the tao) is working with us.

STEP UP. we can no longer accept control in our lives. we cannot accept terror. we are free, we are not criminals. this unconscious power play must be brought into the light of consciousness and ended. we are conditioned from birth to be meek little lambs. no more. in shedding the woolen disguise we discover the lion we really are; only then will we be able to become children once more - spontaneous, joyful. we have to say the sacred NO, before we can say the sacred yes.

everything you do, everything you say, everything you think is real and has consequences for yourself and everyone. if we are conscious we can evolve this shit man, at fucking light speed.

may the force be with us
g
