[Craig, previously]> In "For the New Intellectual", Rand blames evil on two types of> people: the "Witch Doctor" who uses faith rather than reason &> "Attila" who uses force rather than reason. For her Marx falls in> the latter category.
[Arlo]> Marx's contention would be that slavery is never ended by "reason".> Slavery in the south was not overcome by reason, it was overcome by> free men standing, violently, to their captors and breaking the> chains by which they have been bound.
Yes, Rand would agree. She is against the INITIATION of force, notforce used in self-defense or retaliation.
[Arlo]> In the interview (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FzGFytGBDN8), Rand> does not draw a distinction between "Witch Doctors" and other> "religion".
"Witch Doctor" is her metaphor for anyone who prefers faith to reason.I will see "Religiulous". Maher, Rand, Marx, Dawkins,Pete Stark (local Representative who is the only avowed atheistin Congress = safe seat)—the list grows.
[Chris]> In terms of the MOQ what Marx and Engels did was to create a social> pattern to harbour their intellectual values.> With that, as with everything, there is always the danger that the> social pattern continues to work even when the intellectual values> and ideas disappear.
The danger I see is that people are forced to live under intellectualvalues that aren’t theirs.Craig
