Peter,

My misunderstanding then, as I did take it the parallel to your 
Nigerian friend to refer to me. Actually, what made me (wrongly) make 
that assumption was thinking that your story was referring to the 
Buddha's charge that we should alleviate suffering in the world as 
having been your responsibility to buy your friend a house. I'd argue 
that is not what the Buddha had in mind (FYI, I make no claims of 
expertise on Buddhism). But since I rushed to a faulty assumption, 
let me apologize and hope we can write this off as no-harm, no-foul.
