Marsha & David,
Here's something from Chinese 4th Century poet T'ao Ch'ien that may
resonate:
A human being has no roots
We are light as dust on the path
Scattered and carried by a gust of wind
In this body is no permanency
Born into this world makes us brothers
No need of flesh and blood relations
When happy you should have your fun
Call in the neighbours to share the wine
The time of youth will not come again
No one day will dawn twice over
Do your best when you get the chance
The years and months will wait for no man
****
A hero makes the world his goal
But I just want not to feel old
All my family in one place
Where sons and grandsons help each other
With cup and song to start each day
The bottle never going dry
With loosened belt relax in joy
Get up late and go early to sleep
Why be like men of today
The breasts crammed full of fire and ice
A hundred years and they go the the grave
Following the road of empty fame
*******
I too am pulled along, unable to rest
How much longer on the road ahead
Before I come to where I stop and stay
The ancients grudged even an inch of time
When I think of this I am afraid.
