Platt,

I've used the phrase before, but I cannot find its origin.  I'm quite 
sure it had something to do with how a particular Native-American 
people made decisions which included considering how the outcome 
might effect the 7th-generation of the future.  Of course, no one can 
truly predict the future, but it should at least be considered, and 
seems a more intelligent process than responding to the highs and 
lows of yesterday's market statistics.
