but lao tsu talked about the tao did he not and wrote this down.
does this contradict the assertion?

Hi Ron. In a way it does I suppose but Lao Tsu responded to the request of
the gatekeeper. If he (or she) hadn't asked he would simply have
disappeared out the gate. Of course we are not sure if he was reluctant to
do so. Phaedrus certainly was but we know a little more about his story.

Ron:
in context of a type of knowing that may not be spoken
nor written.

Andre:
Agree. It is 'grasped' at a 'total' intuitive level. Write or speak about it
and it detracts/distorts....is not the absolute Tao.
