John Carl said August 1st 2009:

My youngest daughter wants to go to Oxford. Her dad is skeptical, but
supportive. It sounds nice, Saint Ant.
Ant McWatt comments:

Well John, Oxford University is full of North Americans (at least of a European heritage) so no doubt your daughter would soon feel at home there. The tutor to student ratio is relatively low and is the key for why Oxford is so successful academically. Moreover, as with Cambridge University, the putrid touch of “neo-con”/Thatcherite ideology (so beloved by that notorious sinner here, Platt Holden) has had less effect on the independence of mind at Oxford compared to the other, less fortunate, Higher Education institutions in the UK.

As far as MOQ saints are concerned, I think that title should go to Arlo who has patiently dealt with Platt’s dogmatic radio talk show propaganda at MOQ Discuss for years now or maybe to Horse, who has run the whole show here for even longer. Now even Platt wouldn’t argue with that latter nomination!

Best wishes,

Anthony

I am pleased to announce a Study Day at Oxford University on Art and
the Metaphysics of Quality this October! This basically comprises of a
lecture from David Buchanan, two lectures from Patrick Doorly (an art
history lecturer at Oxford) and a presentation from me featuring two newly
made films. In fact, the most recent footage of Robert Pirsig for these was
only filmed earlier this month.

Any regular reader of this Discussion group will already be aware of
David Buchanan’s authentic interpretation of Pirsig’s work. However, you’ll
be less familiar with Patrick Doorly’s equally insightful take on the MOQ
and his lectures, in particular, should not be missed.

Further details for the Study Day can be found at:
