I don't see the contradiction.  A foundation is "the basis upon which 
something stands or is supported."

The topic of this thread is human perception in relation to existential 
reality.  Man's concept of reality as a differentiated system is the 
"edifice" we are all trying to get to the bottom of.  Value is the 
foundation ("fountainhead", if you like) of that edifice.  It is the basic 
nature of experiential awareness.  The whole thrust of man's life is to seek 
out the values of his life-experience.  It's the driving force of human 
behavior and cultural history.  But relational values, no matter how they 
are conceived intellectually, are not ultimate reality.  No finite being can 
perceive, conceptualize or describe the absolute nature of Essence from 
which value sensibility is derived.

Does anybody else view this as a contradiction?
