I don't see how "discounting" something is at all different from "making it insignificant". These terms both mean the same thing; to disregard something because it has no importance or meaning. Insignificant means "of no account" and "worthless". If I were in the mood for a joke, I'd say your distinction should not be discounted because it is so insignificant.
