No arguement, Pirsig, in his wisdom, argues both sides in an attempt
to get both sides thinking a stong social morality IS required BUT
it may not be so strong as to close the door on Dynamic Quality
that means leaving the door open to degeneracy.
I'm not a model example of allways being open to DQ myself, I try. there is plenty I do not like
that I simply do not understand.
As Krimel stated, DQ can be frightening, I had a large dose of it when I got laid-off.
I often feel alone because of most of what I once knew is now gone. "Old age isn't for sissies."
I think Bette Davis said, she's right.
BUT, after surviving and re-building and re-orienting myself I am stronger and better able to
meet DQ confidently. It takes courage to be a MoQer, it takes gumption and care to meet the
unknown.

Thanks for the quotes. There was plenty about the Victorian era not to
admire, as Pirsig vividly describes. But remember his observation about
the social result of the revolution that resulted in dominance of the
intellectual level:
"What's coming out of the urban slums, where old Victorian social moral
codes are almost completely destroyed, isn't any new paradise the
revolutionaries hoped for, but a reversion to rule by terror, violence and
gang death-the old biological might-makes-right morality of prehistoric
brigandage that primitive societies were set up to overcome." (Lila,24)
Not to mention other negative results of the destruction of Victorian
social codes such as the descent upon the land of a "secret loneliness"
and the recent glorification in death of Wacko Jacko.
