[MD] Evolution

Hi Joe,

Nothing wrong with conventional truth as long as I don't mistake it for
Absolute Truth. Evolution is a great conventional truth. It has a history,
it has changed over time, and will continue to change until it has too many
anomalies to survive. I like to think of everyday experience and
conventional truth like a kaleidoscope. Each shift exposes a different,
astounding view. But I haven't always been so mellow.

What's your story Joe? What moved you to philosophy? What brought you to
this forum?

Marsha

Hi Marsha

I don¹t want the denial or falseness of any truth to be true! I prefer the
denial of absolute truth to be a limit to perception. I want to know as much
as I can. Am I a star in the heavens? How silly!

I accept that the truth that I know is limited to who I am. Maybe if I
accept something as true I can talk about evolution. I want evolution to
be an order rather than a denial of individuality.

Pirsig proposes that evolution describes reality in four levels. I accept
that and ask how can I make sense of such a statement? I will try
³evolution² is an order in existence. How can existence be reasonably
ordered? Is existence limited? I either exist or I don¹t. I wander in such
either/or dilemmas and go back to evolution. Evolution is an order in
existence. I accept that and ask is individuality the same as evolution?
Individuals exist! So what? Stop!

I do not accept Ham¹s conclusion that only essence has existence. There has
to be meaning in Not this, Not that, Not the other thing. Individuality
exists. Is evolution an order in existence?
