Todd,
Welcome aboard the ss irrationality, before I begin or state anything
about what I think or feel some will see this post as an opportunity
to exploit those feelings and ideas, I say go for it, it opens up the dialog
again, which is what it is all about, dialog.
Pirsigs MoQ is a great way to understand societies and conflicts with
others, however it may not be the best way to approach a dialog with
your wife.
In my experience, rationality has nothing to do with it, it's about discussion
and dialog of feelings it's about validating and valuing those feelings it's
about openess and the initiation of this dialog.

This is supported by MoQ, in that intellectually, it is higher quality to value the social
relationship with your wife rather than meet her objectively. Kill the objective intellectual
patterns and focus on the biological and social intellectual patterns of quality.

[tac - ] Excellent.  I have the same experience with the model.  So, rather
than debating its existence, what can we do with it? 

One of my goals is to (get ready for this) use the MOQ to better understand
my wife and improve my relationship with her.  Unfortunately, too many times
I am caught by a two by four up side the head.  I listen and listen and just
don't understand where she is coming from in many cases.  BTW, not Venus.
Just one time, I'd like to be able to make a prediction and have it
validated.  Maybe this is the tool...  I've sure read a bunch of other
stuff, with little improvement.

I've a bunch of other stuff cooking as well, but we'll start here.
