In my many years of training in the martial arts
intellectual form was created or mimicked from nature
then practiced until the form became instinctual
then one dwelt in the immediate now and let these
developed instincts guide in action.

during this training, many questions were asked

like when these instincts should be applied, how harsh
and with what level of lethality

the sifu, simply answered, that one would know if one is present
and open to the flow of the situation.

True strength, he said is gental and attentive

attack the attack

divert rather than conflict

maim rather than kill

kill only when  life is in danger

one will know these things if one is present in the situation

many times he told me that for a large man

I had a small sense of self

It took many years to understand this

He is the one that called the martial arts the dance of life

one does not fight

fighters tire

figthers are defeated

fighters have a goal

dancers do so with harmony and joy

He also said building on wisdom

was building on awareness

************
In most "arts" I have practiced, the proper forms are taught
and mastered then we are told to forget them

comitted to instinct let creativity flow

************
He spoke of the tao te ching

I asked continuously about the tao
he said with much force

Forget the tao!

it is meaningless!

it is the path we are concerned with
the way is all there is

focus on the way, and one focuses on the tao

***********

In the Parmenides it is concluded, that for wisdom to be obtained,
forms are required.
without form
there is no path
with no path
one wanders blind

***********

In ZMM when Pheadrus and Chris hike the mountain trail
Chris is goal oriented Phaedrus focuses on traveling the path
Chris becomes fatigued and frustrated Phaedrus enjoys the trip
he is aware of the path.
