Why is this so outrageous? in many places in many ways Pirsig hammers this very point home
throughout his work. the biggest gumption trap was the adhereance to one particular method.
Deweese was guilty of this with the parts for his motorcycle, it made him blind to the alternate
possiblities that had more quality, like the beer can shim example. You take the Deweese
track in that you insist on factory certified parts where Pirsig says that there is greater quality
in milling your own.
