Hi Ron
I recall reading somewhere that an ounce of gold could buy 300 loaves of bread in biblical times. The bread I buy costs $3 a loaf. Gold's now trading at $900 an ounce plus or minus. So an ounce still buys 300 loaves of bread. I'm not so concerned about gold going up in value as I am about my investment holding its value. Considering my 401K has lost over 40% of its value over the last 6 months (and dropping like the proverbial rock), and my house and business have lost 30% of their value over the last year, gold seems a solid choice.
Real estate is all about building relationships. Being a Broker necessitates that I cultivate those relationships on a daily basis. So yes, I think your advice is sound. Still, I'm not much of a joiner of clubs and such. I've tried, but I never seem to fit in well. Rather, I think talking to the movers and shakers who actually make the behind the scenes deals might be a good place to start.
Through my real estate dealings I know all small town mayors in the area. Great people, all. Plus Dennis Hastert, the previous Speaker of the House, is an old friend and a Republican Committeeman now that he's retired from the House. I'm thinking of taking him to lunch. I'm a Democrat but I am flexible too. I always voted a split ticket just to vote for my man Mr Hastert. If I get hooked up into the good old boy network, who knows? And Denny is a good old boy. And a good man too.
How about you? Have you ever run for office, or considered it?
Thanks for writing,
Dan
