Looks to me like chance is your God because it explains such mysteries as 
the emergence of life from mud, man from bugs and consciousness from 
electrified meat.

I think "God" however he is conceived is a response to chance. 
"God" is a particular way of orienting to chance: 
I am not in control but God is. For God's sake, Something is... It must
be...
"God" is a particular relationship toward chance.
I do not understand his will but I trust in it.

Chance is just shit happening and it doesn't give a shit about how it is
happening to you.
Chance is birth defects and aneurisms 
Chance is lightning and volcanoes
It is solar flares and asteroids.
And no one can look than kind of chance in the eye without blinking.

If you look past this you will see that chance is what inspires hope.
There is always a chance that things will be better next time. 
We are designed by chance to respond to chance.
We take stock of things. We guestimate.
We are born perceiving chance. 
And once you get this...
The mysteries that baffle you 
Become as transparent and as nourishing
As the air in your lungs.
