Krimel,

Instead of regurgitating 'NeuroScience Today', you might try 
meditation.  I'm no advanced student, but I did get far enough to 
watch patterns cycle through the mind.  That would be empirical 
evidence, rather than second-hand stuff.  And really it is quite 
amazing to see the thinking process first-hand, get an amazing peek 
at what is being called 'reality'.  Laziness is easier by far, 
especially when you laugh it away with humor, but you are really 
missing something amazing.
