John to Andre:
Now right there that seems an excellent description Phaedrus's
classic/romantic split, does it not?

Andre:
Hi John, and greetings to you too,
Yes, this seems a good description of what Phaedrus was on about, though it
was not identified or recognised as the male/ female principle> ( or wass it
? ah, this fucking medication I am on!)

John:
But this description makes very clear a sort of sexual distinction in human
consciousness.

Andre:
I can follow you at the biological level, the social level but not at the
intellectual level John. Plato was operating ( one would imagine a true
philosopher as doing) at the intellectual level. (this is irrespective of
whether he was aware of these 'levels' or not).

John:
It was for Plato! He was male. Which is the point you're making I think.
I'm not a Greek scholar, but I've read before that there was a strong
component of the anti-feminine in Greek culture.

Andre:
With all respect, this is not an excuse to exonerate Plato. I would be
interested in finding out the influences responsible for this
'anti-feminine' streak in Greek culture.

John:
Our most fundamental Organic pattern of value is the male/female experience
and any intellectual system which denigrates the female side of things,
throws away one half the human intellectual experience.

Andre:
I like to believe you John, but to even suggest a 'female' side to organic
and inorganic patterns is to commit heresy to some.(even on this Discuss)
Also, I am not convinced that at this level the male/female 'split' is an
issue. It seems to me it has become an issue only at the social level...not
even at the biological level.

John:
You bring up (for me anyway), some fascinating points I'd
never considered before.

Andre:
Thank you John, I hope that we can help eachother trying to find some
satisfying (i.e good) answers which help us and the rest on our way
towards.............?

Kind regards
Andre
