[MD] to all who get it

look i think we all know by now that some are on this list to share and learn, and some are here to argue; this list is, for them, the chance to argue with pirsig.

but this list is not about arguing with pirsig; it is not about arguing with anyone.

this list is for those who get pirsig; a number that i am gladdened to see is rising - though we still desperately need more female voices.

i am suggesting that we cease to interact when we know the response beforehand...when we know what reply we will get, when we know exactly where the discussion will go because we have been there so often before. very static.

this is in the interest of all; the try and try again method is obviously not working and is enervating....it saps the energies that should be used now to open new ground, not endlessly rehash.

i do think this whole process has been valuable though - the endless reruns have lead to a crystallization and encapsulation of subtle and complex ideas. this is of benefit to all who are open.

but we can leave that now - i think so anyway.

i would like to move into new territory. i don't think we can make our descriptions and explanations any more precise or concise....but we can analogise endlessly, creatively.....

if we are true to life.

if we retain the priority of immediate experience over the abstract. (the abstract here serves to embellish, to connect - it is the editor, not the author. here we are in the realm of poetry, of mythopoetics)

mythopoetry - the rosetta stone without which the hieroglyphs of life remain indecipherable

this is where truth is....

this is why i harp on about miller, nin: the truth of pirsig's philosophy is shown here. here we see the relegation of the abstract; the preeminence of the immediate...the poetry of its disclosure; the agility and precision with which the abstract interweaves, enhancing, clarifying, connecting, juxtaposing.

we see it in bob too, but here the abstract is louder than in henry - bob is doing philosophy (esp in lila) - he is using life to enrich and deepen philosophy.

in miller philosophy is interspersed and veiled - the philosophy is less explicit, absolute; it is more implied, inferred...so that the meaning, the truth is felt in the whole. yes the whole picture is what does it - you get the whole....truth

maybe that is what i am saying? a move towards the whole...the whole self?

hope this sketch was not too sketchy
