Hey Steve,

An "urge to survive gene?" Why would such a gene exist? Isn't that the 
question? And why did it "emerge?"

 I know science doesn't like why questions. It shrugs them off with a non 
answer like, "It is what it is." Yet it prides itself as being the home of 
inquiring minds. 

Yeah, right.
