[Ron]
Interesting subject matter, in the spirit of abstraction, the evidence of
freedom and free will is decay and death. Quality seems to be purposful in the
basic notion of desire. But for desire to be free, decay must "be".

[Arlo]
Agree. There are no guarantees. Nothing to ensure things happened (or will
happen) in any particular way. For freedom to operate, there must be
unexpectedness, possibility, probability/improbability and chance. The
"purposeful" aspect of the MOQ is the post-response AHA!. It is what allows
evolution to occur. But it does not pre-order or plan, it only provides the
ground to which unexpected/good things become stable responses, while
unexpected/bad things do not.

[Ron]
But out of all this, it occurred to me that a interesting metaphor for DQ is
undefined difference, I interpret from Marsha's position that difference is
co-dependant. But, it could also be seen as fluctuation of one phenomena which
follows Pirsigs line of evaluation.

[Arlo]
I could buy it.

[Ron]
To follow this through, fluctuation simply is, no why, no how, questions are
traps of their own asking that lead one away into invention and abstraction in
this sort of reduction.

[Arlo]
I think this captures the Buddhist "mu" in the MOQ.

[Ron]
Our culture tends to breed in the addiction of ultimate explainations growing
up in the myth of ultimate explainations...

[Arlo]
Agree. I think this is the S/O cultural view Pirsig is battling.

[Ron]
I think "addiction" to concepts is a good term to use. For it's the relation to
these concepts which define the "self". So when these concepts are attacked,
the self seems to be attacked, it's what defines their value ,the emotional
attachment to concepts.

[Arlo]
Agree. Detachment from "concepts" is detachment from "self". But that's scary.
In contrast, its pretty comforting to think the entirety of the cosmos was
orchestrated deliberately to produce YOU, and that YOU have some cosmic
significance for being here.
