That pretty much sums it up, to imply meaning is to begin to define
the indefinable. Pirsig merely reminds us that all metaphysics are
based in the unknowable.
Socrates in Protagoras said that while man is the measure, the importance
lies in the art of measurement. The art. The craft of forging meaning from the flux.
To craft meaning requires development of intent in relation to the use or the purpose
of the measurement which as Protagoras stated is guided by virtue, virtue is an intention
and intention is contextual to experience.
Intention, in ancient texts, has been descibed as desire by some, love by others, dynamic
and indefineable, all we can say is that it "is".
If one really wanted to find the intellectual level in the old testament, the description
of god as "I am" is a pretty intellectual description of the ineffiable, the indefinable,
the dynamic that is Quality.
