[MD] What's your Quality Balance ratio?

Your posting sure triggered a lot for me, Todd. I used to get into this
debate myself quite a bit with a former friend.
Former.
Thereby hangs a tale... anyway, he was a very static-oriented person and
saw me as this very dynamic person who doesn't go along with the crowd. It
made him admire me and abhor me simultaneously. He, like you, felt his life
was too static but when he looked at mine, he considered it way out of
balance on the other side of the equation.
He was probably right. I often think so, anyway.
You ask if increasing the dynamic component in your life will increase your
stress?
I guaran-damne-tee it will. 100% of the time and out of all proportion to
reason. It's the nature of the beast. It's why we all actually prefer a
static existence as much as possible. Dynamic experiences are scarey, be
they intellectual, social or biological; in fact, dynamic biological
experience is right there on the top of the excitement scale, you got sex
and death, ramp up either of those experiences and you will definitely
experience stress and relief from boredom.
But do you really want to? Where you are at is a choice you've made in the
pursuit of some quality you thought you wanted. What changed your mind?
What you are expressing tho, is one of the many reasons I believe that a
good philosophical system is grounded in communalism vs individualism. Any
person is a product of their society, and in order to attain a high quality
individual you have to have a high quality society. You need a mix of
dynamic and static people, in the right mixture (not too much salt!) to get
the soup just right.
