I think Arlo's response is about right.
I'd add that Intellect is only "top of the heap" as matter of
historical evolutionary record. It gives us ways of recognizing the
ways in which patterns in the different levels interact across the
levels and change over different time-scales. Progress occurs in all
levels, PoV's arise and evolve within and across all levels.

Keeping score as to which pattern is winning is a very SOMist outlook.
