Hi Andre,

Yes, I agree as far as Buddhism. I really do not know anything about the
Taoist philosophy.

Marsha to Ron:
On the Intellectual (subject/object) level, reality is not conceived to be a
matter of interpretation; it IS independent self being informed by
independent entities. On the Quality Level, reality is derived from
immediate experience which is constantly changing, interrelated and
relational. I used the word conventional to suggest an established static
pattern, of course there will variations because of, as RMP has stated, the
differences in the history of events experienced by the individual.

Andre:
Hi Marsha, Ron,
I am going through Anthony's PhD again (very, very useful to go 'back to
basics' with, and to refresh and to be clear on some of the meanings of the
words used in the MoQ). I came upon this, something I often have difficulty
with myself so I'll share it here with you:
'The Dynamic Quality viewpoint of the MoQ corresponds to the notion of
sunyata or nothingness ( 'Empty' in the sense of lacking inherent existence
i.e the indeterminate or the world of the Buddhas; literally, the realm of
understanding or wakefulness...) as understood by Nagarjuna...while the
static viewpoint (sammuti-sacca) [The 'conditioned' is everything dependent
{or caused} by sunyata {which is unconditioned}] of the MoQ corresponds to
sunyavada (i.e. the conditioned component or world of maya ( Literally
'illusion' but only in the sense that it is illusory to believe that people
and the objects of their world are permanent, independent and unchanging).

Sunyavada describes all the conceptions of reality including metaphysical
views, ideals, religious beliefs, hopes and ambitions (Real in the sense of
being useful conceptualisations but illusory in the sense of having
independent or absolute existence)'.

Pirsig employs Buddhist and Taoist philosophy but rejects the more esoteric
practices of these traditions... . (McWatt, A, A Critical Analysis...pp
42-3)

Hope this helps... it is helping me anyway.

Cheers
Andre
