Andre:
The biggest fallacy around at present is the notion that capitalism promotes
DQ. What a load of rubbish! Again it is arse-about reasoning. Capitalism
'emerged' from DQ.
Also, there is nothing inherently 'good' about DQ. DQ is. It is the
continuing stimulus our environment 'puts upon us' to act. What 'we' do with
this is up to us. It is considered 'good' because goodness promotes harmony,
beauty i.e high quality patterns. It can also manifest itself as low
quality...these patterns usually do not last as they are not conducive to
the promotion of harmony and beauty.
The capitalist system may work (for some) but you cannot call it harmonious
or beautiful as its 'engine' is the promotion of opposites: i.e have and
have nots, rich/poor, boss/worker. construction/ destruction In other words
a system based on inequality. Without inequality the system would not work.
It is a political/economic system of give and take. A social pattern of
value. However, as Pirsig points out, it is also mindless, it feeds only
upon itself, I liken its workings to Pirsig's example of the Giant. This
system is what drives/ destroys and (sometimes) renews inorganic, organic
and social PoV's.
Pirsig simply says that it has value but there is an intellectual level
above this level which is morally superior. Within the MoQ the 'good' is
restored to its rightful place and we should use (our) intellect to guide
our abstractions and extractions from DQ back towards this harmony and
beauty. Not away from it.
DQ belongs to no one. We are of it all.
Imho
