Speaking of the devil....I wonder how Daves presentation went
or perhaps it's pending, I forget when that conference is exactly
but I for one, hope it went well for him. It is quite an honor
and well deserved in my own opinion.

His value patterns are missed.

I'm not talking about any one, I am talking about the dismissive near glee by
which DMB's departure has been met. And the strange smugness that surrounds the
fact that someone who has received high praise from Pirsig himself being gone
is better for us, somehow.

Ron:
I think it's quite remarkable that Dave was singled out of the discuss,
I think it brought more headache to him than honor, the celebrity thang.
Either their building you up or tearing you down, thats a lot of pressure
for anyone. This ought to answer Andres questions about why Pirsig
doesent just settle some things here on the discuss, I mean look what
happened in Daves case. It should go to show, that any sort of Papal Bull
would create more conflict than settle it, and any sort of Papal Bull is more a
step toward static MoQ orthodoxy, which Pirsig's aim is against.
Look what happened when any sort of authority came into the picture.
This should be a huge lesson to all of us and it's a shame that most of us are
too caught up in our own prejudices to take heed of it, it shows how invested we
all are in our own values, in our own interpretations, and our own ability to weigh
value with an empty cup, that a wise person really does not "know" anything
but their own values and if one truly wants to learn, they are going to have to hold
those values lightly and be open to change them. I't has really shown me how dug in
we all are to our own static beliefs, and no matter how "enlightened" some of us THINK
we are, there is still much room for improvement in this area.
To me, it has exposed a brand of rigid elitism held here on this forum.
