Yes, there was eventual opposition (opposition I supported, I remind you). But
I don't recall conservatives marching with Bush's face made-over in Hitler's
likeness, at least not many.
Final support of the bill, btw, was mixed, "In all, 65 Republicans joined 140
Democrats in voting "yes," while 133 Republicans and 95 Democrats voted "no.""
but definitely ended up with more democrats supporting Bush than republicans.

But I think many politicians on both sides changed their voting after seeing the populace state strong opposition.
